Posterior uveitis comprises 20% of all uveitis cases and affects the choroid which is the posterior part of the uveal tract.

Most common causes of posterior uveitis are toxoplasma infections, idiopathic, CMV infections, lupus and sarcoidosis.

Posterior uveitis causes floaters and blurring of vision. It is diagnosed with fundoscopy and angiography of the retina and choroid. Similarly to the intermediate uveitis, posterior uveitis requires systemic workup with blood tests and chest X-ray.

Treatment is based on the underlying cause.
