Pterygium is a triangular growth of fibrovascular tissue that forms in the conjunctiva and extends over the cornea causing shape irregularity and affecting the vision.

It is related to exposure to UV light and has a very slow progression. Mild cases are just observed and treated with lubricating eye drops. In more advanced cases, surgical excision is recommended to rehabilitate the vision.
