Blepharitis is a chronic inflammation of the eyelid margins. Blepharitis is associated with rosacea, atopy, seborrheic dermatitis and dry eye syndrome.
Symptoms include red and sore eyes, watering, burning sensation and light sensitivity. Blepharitis is associated with chalazion formation and poor quality of the tear film.
Blepharitis treatment includes regular lid hygiene, eyelid massage and lubricating eye drops. More severe cases often require steroid drops or oral antibiotics.
