Anterior Uveitis (Iritis) typically manifests in younger patients. Most cases relate to an autoimmune condition such as ankylosing spondylitis. Less frequent causes are lupus, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and history of trauma to the eye.

Symptoms of iritis include sudden onset of red painful eye, light sensitivity and blurring of vision. It affects typically one eye and not both at the same time. Recurrences are common and do not always affect the same eye.

Treatment includes local steroid drops and cycloplegia to reduce the pain.
