Epiretinal membrane is a thin avascular membrane that forms on the inner surface of the retina.<\/h2>\n

Epiretinal membranes can be associated with various eye conditions such as posterior vitreous detachments, retinal breaks or detachments, inflammatory conditions and hemorrhages in the vitreous.<\/p>\n

However, most of them are not associated with any underlying conditions and are called idiopathic.<\/p>\n

Symptoms caused by epiretinal membranes are vision distortion and wavy lines.<\/p>\n

Its treatment is surgical and is performed with vitrectomy and peeling of the membrane. Surgery is carried out under local or general anesthesia.
